What is there near the Mad Hostel?

First, the Mad Hostel is right in the centre of Madrid. From the hostel you can discover nearly all the most famous monuments, museums and beautiful squares of Madrid, all within walking distance.

Barrio de Huertas - the Huertas district

The Mad Hostel is on the border between two very old and famous Madrid districts. The district of Huertas is an ideal place to start the evening, there are plenty of bars, discotheques, pubs and tapas bars. The staff at the hostel will be delighted to give you all the information you need about Madrid so you can enjoy your stay with us to the full. One street away from the hostel is the oldest and most internationally famous Tablao Flamenco in Madrid, Casa Patas. There's a show every night and the guests of Mad hostel enjoy special prices.

Barrio de Lavapies - the Lavapies district

The Lavapies district is the most flamenco district of the city. In recent years it has been recuperating from a bad spell and is now regaining its fame. The narrow streets are filling with modern bars, artistic centres, theatres and principally with flamenco bars. The Lavapies district is without doubt the most multi-ethnic and lively district of the city of Madrid.

El Rastro - The Rastro Market

The biggest and most famous Spanish street market is held every Sunday and Bank Holiday and is only a 5 minute walk from the Mad Hostel. But it's not just a fascinating street market - it's the tapas bars and general atmosphere of the district that make it a must. But - be careful!! - it's a favourite place with pickpockets!!

"Atocha" train station

Our hostel is only a 10 minute walk from the central Atocha train station. On the underground it's only one stop to "Antón Martín".

"Puerta de Sol" - Puerta de Sol Square

This square is not only the true centre of the city, it's also the geographic centre of Spain. This is where everything in Spain starts, the highways, the New Year etc.

"Plaza Santa Ana" and "Plaza Mayor"

Two lovely squares where you'll find groups playing music in the streets, artists and other entertainment - squares where you'll enjoy just watching all types of people go by, listening to the music and having something to eat or drink in one of the many pavement cafés or bars.

Museums

The Reina Sofía, Prado and Parque del Retiro Museums are all within a 10 minute walk from the hostel.

The historic centre of Madrid

The "Palacio Real" Royal Palace and the "Madrid de los Austrias" are around the hostel. Palaces, mansions, churches etc. You can find a piece of the history of Spain on every corner, in every street.
